If you have decided to expand the range of services that you provide in your beauty salon to include an ear piercing service, here is some advice that you may want to keep in mind.
Make sure that the jewellery you use to pierce people's ears is hypoallergenic
It is best to ensure that all of the ear piercing jewellery that you buy for your salon is hypoallergenic. A lot of people have allergies to the common metals (such as cobalt, copper and nickel) that are used to make jewellery. If a person is allergic to these metals, they may develop contact dermatitis if they are exposed to them. This condition can cause a number of uncomfortable symptoms, including a rash, skin blisters and severe dryness. Due to the inflammation that this form of dermatitis causes, it can also lead to an infection developing in the affected area of the skin.
If a customer arranges to have their ears pierced at your salon and you use jewellery for this procedure which is made from metals that they are allergic to, their ears could become very sore and inflamed. In addition to causing them discomfort and putting them at risk of a skin infection, this may lead to them having to remove the earrings before the pierced holes in their ears have healed. As a result of this, these holes will close up. The customer may then have to get their ears pierced a second time.
As such, it is best to only use hypoallergenic earrings on your customers when you pierce their ears.
Order a wide range of earring styles
A lot of business owners make the mistake of only offering a selection of two or three earring styles to their customers whose ears they have been asked to pierce. It's vital not to make this error and to instead order a wide range of earring styles so that your customers who decide to avail of your piercing service have plenty of options to choose from.
When a person gets their ears pierced for the first time, they usually need to leave the earrings in for at least a few weeks to ensure that the pierced holes stay open permanently. Because they will need to wear this jewellery for a relatively long period of time, most people in these circumstances want these earrings to suit their personal tastes.
If you only have, for example, two types of earrings for your customers to choose from, it is highly unlikely that these styles will appeal to every single person who gets their ears pierced at your salon. Given this, it is best to purchase a large selection of styles.
